Iona West Mens Shed

... a place for men to meet for activities, projects, mentoring and support.

Situated behind Iona-West Uniting Church, 7 Brooks St, West Mackay, Iona West Mens Shed is currently open Mondays from 1pm to 4pm, Tuesdays 9am to 4pm, Wednesdays 9am to noon (Retirees' Group) and 1pm to 4pm, and Saturdays 9am to 1pm.

Activities include project work, health information, social activities and barbecue lunches.

Men's Breakfast

The Iona West Man's Breakfast is held on the first Saturday of every month except January, at 7:30am in the Iona West Hall at 7 Brooks St West Mackay. There is an admission fee of $5 for a hot brekky, guest speaker and an opportunity to mingle with positive, community-minded men. Visitors and new members are always made to feel welcome and the Men’s Shed will be open afterwards for those wanting to stay on.

Retirees' Group

In addition to our standard opening hours, we now have an active Retirees' Group that meets every Wednesday morning from 9am to midday. All retirees welcome, we're always looking for new and exciting projects to work on. Please contact our Coordinator Chris McAdam on 0432 983 181 for more information.

There will be a Candle-lighting ceremony on 1st May 5:30pm at Mackay Regional Council near the fountain, and on 16th May at 6pm in the Moranbah Town Square.

Shed Happens

Shed Happens on the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month, 6:30-8:30pm underneath Mackay Christian College Trade Centre. Real Blokes being real. Bring your mate, dad, son or brother along. BBQ dinner $10 donation.

Health Resources for Men’s Sheds

D.I.Y. Health Toolbox and other Resources - the Department of Health has made available the DIY Health Toolbox and other DIY resources for Men’s Sheds. Each Men’s Shed can order up to 2 toolboxes and a variety of other DIY Health items. Toolbox supplies are limited. The DIY Order Form is now available on the AMSA website www.mensshed.org under the ‘Health’ tab. When completed, please email the order form to health@nationalmailing.com.au

The National Tobacco Campaign has a range of resources that can be ordered directly from the QuitNow website. If you would like to place an order for more than 200 copies of a resource, please email quitnow@health.gov.au

The Health Star rating campaign has printable factsheets about the system for both educators and shoppers, available on their website, http://healthstarrating.gov.au/internet/healthstarrating/publishing.nsf/Content/campaign-resources

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program campaign also offers printable resources, in an effort to increase awareness of bowel cancer. These resources are also available for both culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences.
